ON THE BIT - THE CLASSICAL WAY
Sylvia introduces the video by giving the British Dressage (FEI) definition of 'on the bit'. She goes on to explain that many riders, in their attempts to put their horses 'on the bit', bring their horses' heads behind the vertical. The intention of the video is to show how we can encourage our horses to come onto the bit without stress or putting them into a bad position.
Many riders don't understand that bits and tack do not just influence the horse's mouth but the whole body. Simple drawings are used with great effect to illustrate how we can connect the front end of the horse to the hind end and, through the aids, build a bridge for the rider to sit upon. This will help the horse carry the rider better by bringing the back up. Many horses find ways of evading or avoiding the bit as we see from a number of guinea-pig horses who take part in a live remedial session. A sympathetic approach is seen to be the most successful one as Sylvia works with various horses and riders showing how these evasions can be overcome.
I particularly like the work, achieved in an unhurried and sympathetic way, Sylvia does with young horse, Quincy, who had only been with her for 10 days at the time of filming. The session is finished off with a lovely serpentine with the horse really using himself behind.
There is so much information in this video that it will certainly benefit from repeat viewing. Explanations are given in a simple, clear and unambiguous way. It will be of great value to all riders in any discipline at whatever level and it truly deserves to reach a wide audience. I think it is the best video Sylvia has made so far and I am already looking forward to the next one.

ON THE BIT - THE CLASSICAL WAY (45 minutes)
Descriptions of what 'On the Bit' means vary greatly, but this video provides a very comprehensive answer. Aimed at riders of all disciplines, and especially those who experience difficulties, Sylvia shows that a softly-softly approach to establish the correct contact will work every time and with every horse. In this video, the whole process with a number of quite difficult horses is shown step by step.
This is a must-have for all riders!
