GETTING ON - DVD (2 for the price of 1!)

This summer after much pressure from her younger fans, Sylvia decided it was time to produce a film for the complete beginner,to be coupled with her very successful Staying On.
Staying On was first produced in video format in 2002 - designed for the older child rider to work in greater empathy and balance with their pony. It was very much a response to some of the sights Sylvia and her students had witnessed at shows around the country, where the ethos seemed to be Kick On and Yank in the mouth! The transformation in the 7 guinea-pig riders and their mounts during their lessons with Sylvia is remarkable. Correct canter leads, good transitions, better posture in the saddle and a better feel for diagonals is all discussed, as well as proper turns and correct aids throughout.
GETTING ON is a real beginner's film - it features 6 year old Jake and Jessica who learn how to lead, tie up, groom, bridle and saddle their ponies before riding first on the lead rein and then unaided - until that magic moment - the first canter! This DVD will be invaluable to all who teach riding or to parents wishing to instill safety and the correct guidelines around the yard and on horseback.
GETTING ON and STAYING ON are therefore being launched together as a very watchable 2.5 hour DVD... the two separate films are independent of each other, but together they make a very nice package at a very reasonable price of £19.95.

PERFECT LATERALS TRILOGY

This recently launched DVD provides the viewer with 3 of Sylvia's most popular films: ON THE BIT, SHOULDER-IN and TRVERS TO HALPASS (roughly 2 hrs. and 40 minutes of action packed footage.
Stunningly filmed, these three films (formerly on video) offer the viewer technical insights into the riding of each lateral movement with a variety of horses and riders, from the very novice to the expert.
ON THE BIT (next to Classical Seat I)is probably our biggest seller and answers all your questions about the correct preparation of the horse to working in an outline. It shows how horses are brought 'to' the hand (mise-en-main) and collection through an uninvasive use of seat and leg and how to achieve the correct contact. All this is possible with the most difficult of horse - as you will see - even the inverate nose-poker or the horse who habitually dives behind the bit.
The hose's back and how to encourage rounding and engagement throughout is discussed in vivid detail, bits and their uses discussed and a host of other valuable riding secrets.
This Trilogy is a valuable addition to the thinking rider's collection.

CLASSICAL DRESSAGE LESSONS AT EDEN HALL
ON SCHOOLMASTER LUSITANOS

In between writing commitments and teaching abroad, I take private one-to-one Dressage Lessons on my two Lusitano schoolmasters, an Advanced/Medium level stallion Prazer and my Advanced (some High School) display horse, Espada (now 21). I also teach riders on their own horses.

I do not teach Courses as such, but for anyone wishing to combine a visit to the Scottish Borders - staying locally - (www.visitscottishborders)I can generally accommodate one private dressage lesson per day so you can make up your own mini-course and explore this stunning rural locality in your spare time. Our local market town of Kelso boasts excellent hotels, restaurants, Floors Castle - open to the public, the race-course, skating/curling rink, salmon fishing on the Tweed and the Roxburgh Golf Course as well as great shopping.
Riding standard: Weight Limit - 11 - 11 and half stone
Price per private lesson: £85. 00 per hr.
For CRC Members: £65. 00 per hr.
During that hour Sylvia will first ride your schoolmaster and explain the aids and what to concentrate on. You will then ride for approx. 45 mins. The lesson will end with advice re. exercises, future work, etc.

Please note! I have no novice level horses so you must ride to a confident standard of competence. Lusitanos are hotblood horses and my school is a 20 x 60 m. outdoor sand/rubber arena (where although highly trained, the odd spook can still occur). You do not have to be a dressage rider, but you will need to have ridden outside. Jumping or Crosscountry riders who want to discover the classical seat are welcome. You will know how to sit light and distribute your weight correctly. It will definitely help if you can familiarise yourself with my teaching before your Course, such as watching the Classical Seat on video(s) or DVD.

ADVICE - For those who wish to take advantage of professional advice, either studying your home video/DVDs with you, questions and answers on dressage, or just listening to rider problems... I am happy to 'rent out my time' at £60.00 per hour for one or two people in the relaxed atmosphere of my own home with a cup of tea.

LECTURES - Formal Lectures (with slides) either at Eden Hall are generally advertised in the Classical Riding Club magazine (www.classicalriding.co.uk) or on this website.
I am a practised after dinner speaker and during the past 20 years have lectured all over the world including the Spanish and Portuguese Embassies, the Anglo-Austrian Society, Equitana USA (twice) New Mexico, Los Angeles, Ramona, Calif. New York State, Chicago, Birmingham, Alabama, San Paulo, Brazil, Melbourne, Australia, Auckland, New Zealand, Durban, South Africa, Nairobi, Kenya and many well known European venues. Fee by arrangement and plenty of prior notice. Very favourable terms for fundraising and Horse Charities. Subjects include: The History of Classical Riding, The Royal Horse of Europe, The Classical Seat, A Kinder Way to Ride, All about Collection, All about Bend... and other topics.

Due to pressure of demand from my local students and only 2 teaching horses, I am not able to offer more than 3 actual riding lessons on 3 consecutive days, which is why I have included other alternatives. This gives a little more choice for anyone planning a visit from overseas...but please be aware that my time is limited!

However, I am always pleased to welcome VISITORS here to our yard just outside Kelso. Judith Bellamy our stable manager works very hard to keep the yard orderly (with several horses in at livery or for schooling) so we prefer no visits in the morning.
Lessons are always in the afternoon and Audting/Viewing is free. However, please make an appointment in advance as I am not always here and it is a private home, not a public yard (with guard dogs!) No visiting dogs please!-

CONTACT- Due to overenthusiasm from the public I am not able to supply my email (sorry!) - although may do so after your visit! - but if interested in knowing more, please send a Fax to
Sylvia Loch on 0044 - (0)1890 830667 or write Sylvia Loch, Eden Hall, KELSO, Scottish Borders, TD5 7QD.

DIRECTIONS - Eden Hall is approx. 3 miles east of Kelso town centre and 5 miles west of Coldstream centre on the A698. It is a large grey farmhouse set well back from the main road on the hill to the north side of the River Tweed. It is clearly signposted by a green signpost on the verge of the road. (If coming from Kelso, it is AFTER the Highridgehall and Plum Brae signs.)

REPLIES - There may be some delay in responding to letters, faxes, messages etc due to volume of trafffic, but we will do our best. Thank you!
